The Friday Nite Cruise at Old Town
as reported by Gregg Nelson Sr.

August 12th, 2005
As Published in V2-I33-#53 August 18th 2005

CRASH    BANG    BOOM    CRASH   BANG   BOOM   At least that is what we heard at our house from about four thirty to almost half past seven which is only about ten miles south of Old Town and I would guess from the turnout tonight I wasn't the only one who heard the skies roar and pound and that isn't to mention the rain.

We had 71 cruisers who registered for the cruise tonight. More than half the cars in attendance were newer and most of those were low riders. It was difficult to find anything that was exceptional enough to generate a report about and because of the rain and thunder my evening was short anyway.

We had four checker flag winners with three cruisers claiming those flags. This week the winners didn't stir up any controversy.

The first winner was Casey Davenport with a 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. He could not be found at cruise time and therefore didn't claim his prizes.

The next checker flag winner was Daniel Jones with a 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Daniels car is a work in progress. his car has dark blue paint on the outside and has blue and white vinyl seats on the interior. He recently shaved the door handles and lowered the car as well as installed Dayton chrome wire wheels and Vogue wide white walls as well. I'm sure it will look good when it is done.

The third checker flag went to Raymond Orlando with a 1980 Toyota Corolla two door hatchback. Rays car was wearing silver paint on the outside with black and white buckets inside. His car is another fine example of what was available from Toyota back then. Rays car still looks showroom fresh and has only logged 89,000 miles. It is well preserved.

The fourth checker flag was awarded to Andy Figueroa with a 2000 Dodge Neon four door sedan. It seems that a Neon at Old Town with out neons under it would not be right so of course this one had them as well as a deck lid spoiler, low profile tires, 18 inch mags, and a white body kit that stood out against that green body. I know contrary to popular belief I can write a short report and here is the proof.

Until next week have fun and cruise safely.
