August 2004 Front page

Welcome to Steve Butler's Cruise-In News On-Line.
(Companion and publisher of "Mustang Mike's" The Official Saint Cloud Thursday Nite Cruise-In News and to Duke Davis' The Official Wednesday Nite Cruise-In News)

August turned out to be a month of Bad Weather and a lot of canceled Cruises. Tropical Storm Bonnie started the mess that will take many months for Central Florida to recover.

"Charley" was the big one that hit land near Punta Gorda, and traveled some 100 miles plus then exited into the Atlantic near Daytona Beach. However it was such a fast moving storm that is was still a category 2 when it took the roof from my house in Kissimmee. Many others had much worse damage than we did. I journal the events at www.butlerphoto.us/Charley.

Needless to say that many Cruisers could not come out because of the clean up efforts that followed. Then just 3 weeks after he wreaked his havoc, "Frances" brought more destruction and flooding to this area of Florida. We did not sustain any further damage but we did get out of uor little place and take refuge with 3 other couples at Reporter, Steve McCullough's house. It will always be known as the "Great Labor Day Encampment of '04" to us.

Then to add insult to injury, "Ivan" played games with us by heading in the same path that "Charley" took, by the 14th, the day after he was going to originally hit out coast by Tampa, he was heading to the NNW towards our Florida's panhandle. We are very grateful for that.

Hoping that September will calm down a bit for us now we are looking forward to the GO Vairs Corvair Family Reunion on the 24-26th at Old Town. We also are looking forward to the Wednesday Nite Cruise-In as well as the Saint Cloud Thursday Nite Cruise-In.

Hope to see you out there.
